Solar Eclipse of April 8, 2024

A total solar eclipse dubbed the “Great North American Eclipse” is scheduled for April 8, 2024, and it will traverse 13 U.S. states in a short path of totality that runs from southwest to northeast. You have to be in this narrow path of totality to see the eclipse’s total phase.

At the centerline, the totality will last the longest. The Moon’s visible diameter will be 5.5% greater than typical on this day. With a magnitude of 1.0566, it will be closest to the surrounding cities of Torreón, Coahuila, and the Mexican town of Nazas, Durango, (~6 km north), for a maximum length of four minutes and 28.13 seconds.

This astronomical phenomenon will traverse North America, crossing Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The Moon passes in front of the Sun and Earth during a total solar eclipse, totally hiding the Sun’s face.

It will get darker in the sky, like morning or dusk. This eclipse is expected to be an amazing show if you happen to be in the perfect place.

Instruction to view Solar Eclipse 2024

It’s essential to watch a solar eclipse safely to save your eyesight. Here are a few crucial guidelines:

  • Examine your solar screen for tears, damage, scuffs, and other damage before using it. Throw it away if you discover any problems.
  •  If you typically wear glasses, don’t take them off. Cover them with your eclipse glasses or place your portable solar viewer directly in front of it.
  • Hold steady and shield your eyes using eclipse glasses or a solar viewer before gazing directly at the Sun.
  • Move away from the Sun after looking at it by using your solar filter, then take the filter off. Never take it off when facing the sun.
  • Keep in mind that staring at the Sun during an eclipse is not safe with regular sunglasses, not even the very dark ones. Use safety-approved personal solar observers or special-purpose sun filters, such as “eclipse glasses.”
  • The Sun will remain extremely brilliant during either a partial or annular eclipse, as well as the partial stages of a total eclipse. To avoid damaging your skin, always wear protective clothes, a hat, and sunscreen.
