World Athletics Day Goes Silent as World Runs Through Pandemic
In 1996, World Athletics Day was observed for the first time. This concept was initiated by Primo Nebiolo, then head of the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF). IAAF organizes and funds World Athletics Week, which is also the world governing body for field athletics and track sport, established in Stockholm (Sweden) on 17 July 1912.
